Roadtrips and Secrets and ARCs, oh my!
Why hello there, internet.
It's a new year, as I'm fairly certain most of you know, and thus begins the proverbial fresh start. For me, that means a new city 2500 miles away from where I last lived, new freelance opportunities (yeah side jobs!), and new artistic resolutions.
Well, really one main resolution: staying on task. Whilst sick and phlegmy, I sat down and made an aggressive creative schedule for the next six months. I'm working on the sequel to Velvet, but I'm also simultaneously working on three feature screenplays, and without a schedule I'm complete mush. The older I get (said the sage 20-something), the more I realize structure and discipline are things I very much need as a creative person. After making said schedule (both a daily schedule and a project-based schedule), I e-mailed it to a friend as a sort of external fail safe. Guilt is a rather powerful motivator for me —
— but so is opportunity. Hence my 2500 mile mid-winter relocation. My new home base is Nashville, and you guys, I can't even express how excited I am to be in this city. There are so many beautiful, talented, creative people here, doing all kinds of incredible things, it's just ridiculous. Actually, you should check out my INTRODUCING page to see this month's featured artist, Julian Dente. He's pretty cool. I can very much vouch for his coolness.
Speaking of cool things, two Swoon Reads titles debuted this week, The Boy Next Door by Katie Van Ark, and Save Me by Jenny Elliott! You can check them out on the Swoon Reads site, or in your local bookstore (and if you find them, take a picture and post it on IG or Twitter with the #SwoonInTheWild hashtag, because you're cool and books are exciting).
In related and ridiculously happy news, Swoon Reads sent me the ARCs for Velvet! Aren't they beautiful?! I think they're beautiful. It's indisputable.
Even more glorious? The elegant, bold interior design. Just look at these chapter headings!
In other, other news, I'm working on a few cool publicity ideas for Velvet. I need to figure out if I can actually pull them off (mostly an issue of time, resources, and moolah), but seriously, I promise, they're super awesome. Just...yeah. I wish I could tell you more, but I can't.
In the same category of exciting-things-I-can't-tell-you-about, I got super awesome news from Swoon Reads today! Alas, that is literally all I can say.
"That's why her hair is so big, it's full of SECRETS." (Ten points if you can name that movie. Nay, fifty points.)
Because I'm terrible at keeping things to myself, I will stop typing and instead leave you with some of my favorite pics from my recent cross-country roadtrip. Happy new year, everyone!
